Writing Diary – 19th July

Today was an odd day as I was not involved in writing anything about the opening day’s play between England and South Africa at The Oval as I have been busy working on other projects.

Return To The Crease was available for free all day on the Kindle, however, and reached the top 1,500 free downloads, which was quite pleasing.

I have come to the realisation that all the online advice about not trying to write more than one book is absolutely spot on. Working on 1,309 Days Later and also trying to write on the England-South Africa series is not going to be possible.

To make sure I get 1,309 Days Later where I want it to be and release a book I can be proud of – not to mention trying to get some exposure for it – I have to take what is actually quite an easy decision.

Three years ago, I was able to watch pretty much every ball of the Ashes. Times change and this time around I simply don’t have that luxury. I’m more likely to formulating questions for golfers and hockey players.

Something on the ICC World Twenty20 does, however, remain a long-term project that I would like to commit to.

1,309 Days Later, the story of how Grantham Men’s 1st XI went over three years without a league victory, is due to published later this year. A proportion of any royalties will go back into the club to support grass roots hockey.
